5 BEAUTIFUL AND BIODIVERSE TRAVEL DESTINATIONS

Biodiversity is considered to be the variation of life across all levels of biological organization. If your focus in travelling is to experience a world of variety, complexity and untouched beauty then these five destinations could be what you are looking for.

    1. SEYCHELLES

The Republic of Seychelles is an island chain of roughly 115 tiny islands surrounded by the Indian ocean. It is located north east of Madagascar and some 1,600 km (994 mi) east of Kenya. The Seychelles boasts some of the most beautiful beaches, coral reefs and water in the world.

    Seychelles looking like heaven

The largest ethnic groups are those of African, French, Indian, and Chinese descent, the major language is Seychellois Creole based from French. English and French are also spoken and the social organisation has a decidedly matriarchal predominance. The azure ocean embraces islands of either granite or coral origin, with an amazing array of spectacular marine life and some equally impressive coastal forests on the land.

    Pristine Beach

The Seychelles is a world leader in sustainable tourism and has some of the highest number of areas under conservation on the planet. A trip to the Seychelles not only ensures a delightful creole cultural experience including wonderful folk music, pristine white sand beaches to relax on with a crystal blue ocean lapping gently. iI also means you may encounter sea creatures, bird life and wildlife you have never seen before, including the rare giant tortoise.

MUSHROOM MUSCLE - MYCELIUM THE MOST IMPORTANT ORGANISM KNOWN TO MANKIND?

Mushrooms - they are yummy in our tummy, a darling of the gourmet food crowd, a nutritionists delight and  the subject of fascination and  folk history for millenia. The legendary healing properties and superhuman immortality bestowing powers of this fascinating fungi, are a source of widespread symbolism and meaning. Humans across cultures and lands can easily drift off into the collective unconscious' Fantasia fairyland of dancing mushrooms, so deep do our roots grow with the wonderful fungi.

Whilst we have been gathering and munching away for millenia, it is only in the last few years that the significance and might of the mycelium, the invisible organism underneath the mushroom that actually produces it, has gained  more widespread attention.

MUSHROOMS - CULINARY DELIGHT & HEALTH BENEFITS

Mushrooms - we find them delicious the world over. We take much for granted about these funny little fungal offspring who spontaneously  sprout up from the ground amongst the shadows, like a magical mystery treasure.

Mushrooms are actually the "fruit" of a fungus whose undifferentiated  body is known as the mycelium, growing in wood, soil, or decaying matter. The Mycelium is actually the essential part of the organism. Through the mushroom we only get a small view of all that is happening within this mini world  underneath - and its contribution to the greater ecology surrounding it. Mushrooms are not really a plant, or even a vegetable - they are firmly a fungus.

WHY A WHOLE FOOD DIET ?

Following a whole food diet is one of the best choices we can make for supporting our bodies natural tendencies towards health and balance.  We have evolved over millennia as an integrated life from within the greater ecology of our planet. We have been given all that we need for our support and nourishment by mother earth’s infinitely creative wisdom. By adapting a whole food diet we become harmonious with our intended design.

    BAREFOOT AND FANCY FREE

Many solutions to everyday health complaints can be found by observing the way our bodies have been designed to function and constantly adapt in harmony with our environment. We were born with feet for our mobility needs, for picking up and receiving information in our environment, and with skin for protection. Most of our ancestors walked and ran perhaps thousands of miles across varied terrain without shoes, their bare feet carrying them for the most part, successfully.

Humans are the only animals that use any type of self made covers or protection for their feet. This  solution based thinking is seen as a form of evolvement, yet evolving and adaptation can occur in many ways. Other life forms develop a refined sensitivity; in order to have basic survival needs met. Dolphins in the ocean have sonar, all parts of their bodies are perfectly adapted to their surroundings, sending and receiving many forms of complex input in the blink of an eye.[1] If they were encased or felt the need to protect themselves from the ocean – no doubt this sensitivity would be lost. Birds have developed mechanisms that read and adapt to the earths magnetic fields [2] and barometric pressure. When we look at the design of our own bodies in a similar light, we can get an inkling of the complexities, the finer subtleties our feet are involved in, which we have been covering up and losing, due to not using.

    ECOTHERAPY - HEALING WITH NATURE

The relationship between ourselves and nature can profoundly influence our personal and planetary healing. When this relationship is disconnected, negated or broken human’s become increasingly disharmonious within. We start to create external situations that are imbalanced, draining and exploitive, rather than reciprocal and sustainable - the cycle affects humanity and our planet as a whole.

Ecotherapy is an umbrella term for nature based, experiential wellness education. It can also be known as “Green Therapy” or “Earth Centered Therapy” to highlight a few terms with a similar intention. It seeks to facilitate the individual’s relationship as reciprocal between self and nature, for healing and greater awareness. Since the advent of the industrial age the cost of “civilization” has been an increased weakening of our bonds with nature. We now spend most of our time indoors. Ecotherapy seeks to take wellness and healing out of the office and into nature.

NEW FINDING LINKS VIGOROUS EXERCISE WITH INCREASED VITAMIN D LEVELS AND LOWER RISK OF HEART DISEASE

We all know that exercise decreases the risk of heart disease. There have been many studies published over the years supporting this. However, none yet have focused on the link between exercise, higher Vitamin D levels and lower heart disease risk. New research from the Harvard School of Public Health does for the first time.

The study found that three or more hours a week of vigorous exercise such as running, jogging or playing sports such as basketball or soccer reduce the risk of heart disease by 22 % along with increased levels of Vitamin D and HDL cholesterol (the good one).

    Moving and grooving

What is greatly supported by this study is one of the central tenets of Naturopathic philosophy, so simple, yet so greatly overlooked and not observed or consistently applied over time into our busy modern metropolitan lives. To bolster our body’s natural tendencies towards balance and wellbeing - make a point to get plenty of fresh air, sunshine and exercise.
